The ministry of Internal affairs has clarified on the ongoing social media row between Uganda and Kenya.
This follows a tweet by Uganda President Yoweri Museveni’s son Muhoozi Kainerugaba who went on a Twitter meltdown, warning that he would only need two weeks with his army to capture Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.
“It wouldn’t take us, many army and me , 2 weeks to capture Nairobi” Muhoozi tweeted.
In a press statement released on October 4, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Government treasures the existing strong relationships between the people of Kenya together with their government stressing the desirable need to build a unified East African community.
“The ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to clarify that the government of the Republic of Uganda doesn’t conduct it’s foreign policy and other official business through social media nor does it depend on social media sources in dealing with other sovereign Governments”, according to the Ministry statement.
Muhoozi ignited the social media scandal by blaming retired President Uhuru Kenyatta for not contesting for a third term in the August 2022 polls, stating that the retired president could have easily won the election.
He suggests Mr Kenyatta, who handed over power to President William Ruto on September 13, 2022, should have changed the constitution to remain in power.
It should be noted that Kenya went into an election where William Ruto was declared the winner of the August polls over Raila Odinga. which increased the bilateral relationship between the two East African countries .
