The police in Kampala have arrested, Felix Adupa Ongwech, the President of Transformers Cadre Association Uganda (TCAU) and also a former Parliamentary candidate for Kioga County, Amoratar District on allegations of failing to account for funds belonging to the association.
According to reports, Adupa was arrested on Thursday evening after he failed to show up to respond to summons at the OC/ CID offices at Wandegeya Police station on the morning of same day promoting police to hunt for him.
ASP. Herbert Rugubwa, the OC Wandegeya Police said the suspect was arrested at a a hotel room, Nikan Hotel in Seguku, Kajjansi, Wakiso District where he was hiding.
He was then transported to Wandegeya to record a statement. While at Wandegeya, he was put into police custody for more investigations.
Anonymous source at Transformers Cadre Association Uganda (TCAU) has disclosed to this publication that their contributions would be kept on the SACCO account since they hadn’t opened up a Bank account.
The SACCO leadership then requested Adupa to transfer the money to the SACCO account. But to their dismay, the source continued members started growing suspicions after they realized Adupo had refused to do so.
“SACCO members became suspicious after they demanded for a bank statement from Adupa in vain. We then opted to use legal action in order to recover the money”, Anonymous source said.

In the process, they got information that the same person had began going looking for money lenders who are within the association to lend him money to pay back and cover up.
The members numbering over 58 have been contributing UGX 100,000= each, totaling to 6m. Two members; Kyambadde Baker and Mugweri Geoffrey who are signatories of UBA SACCO account No. 1664000030 also recorded a a statement at police.

These members have been advocating for Uganda’s Constitutional amendment to eliminate universal Suffrage system of electing Ugandan president to a parliamentary system where the president can be voted for by only MPs.
Adupo was charged with theft and later released on Police Bond.
