KAMPALA:
Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the Forum for Democratic Change Secretary General has lashed at the former party national mobilizer, Ingrid Turinawe for conflicting the party leadership advising her to go and form her own political party.
“Go and form your own political party and become the president, secretary general and mobiliser,” Mafabi blasted.
Mafabi also the Budadiri county member of parliament was responding to comments made by his colleague Ingrid Turinawe on Friday during a News Opinion Slot “Nze ngabwendabba” on Buganda Kingdom radio CBS FM on Friday. Turinawe during an interview accused the FDC Secretary General of arrogance which she said was collapsing the party if the powers of the SG are not reduced.
“They pretend to be colleagues of laws who follow the constitution but the party is doing a lot of bad things to its members, even NRM which they pretend to be fighting against, is doing well,” she said.
Turinawe added; “I don’t want to go into details but I have a lot that the leadership of the party has done to me and I have kept quiet. When we asked for money for the campaigns, SG Mafabi refused to give us money and took it to pay himself Shs 700m for the house he had rented to The Democratic Alliance (TDA).”
She accused Mafabi of being a monopolist who when one disagrees with can not receive any coins or party ticket to contest for any position in the country.
However, Mafabi has dismissed Turinawe’s words calling them false accusations aimed at creating divisionism in the party.
He said Ingrid Turinawe ceased to be a member of FDC when she opposed party regulations and contested as an independent candidate contrary to the party constitution.
“I would advise her to form her own party. Gen. Muntu defected the FDC and formed his own party, how many legislators does he have in parliament?”
FDC recently suspended Ingrid Turinawe from the party over misconduct and was replaced with the Obongi county MP Hassan Kaps Fungaroo as FDC national mobiliser in the recent party national leaders appointments.
On the issue of the TDA rent, Mafabi scorned Turinawe that the Naguru building which housed TDA offices was constructed using his own money noting that it could not be rented out at free of charge.
For many times, Nandala Mafabi has been in spotlights with several FDC members accusing him of arrogance.
He is remembered to have boldly told the former Kampala woman MP Nabilah Ssempala Naggayi that she would have died during the presidential age limit debate.
The duo were appearing on NTV political talk show “On the Spot” in July 2020, hosted by Patrick Kamara when in a heated debate the FDC SG Nandala Mafabi asked the then Kampala woman MP Nabilah why she didn’t vote against the removal of Article 102b that lifted the presidential age limit caps.
In her response, Nabilah said she was home on a sick leave.
Mafabi then intervened; “Why didn’t you die if you were sick?”
The strong and bitter words of Mafabi enraged Hon. Nabilah who in protest picked her hand bag and walked out of the studio. The show was then interrupted into a commercial break until the host, Patrick Kamara pleaded with Nabilah and reconciled the two off camera to have the show continued airing.
Unresolved crafts have internally affected the fdc and a number of founding members have defected the party one by one with most recent being the former party President Rtd Gen. Gregory Mugisha Muntu who formed his own party, Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), former party legislators Paul Mwiru, Alice Alaso, Beatrice Anywar and the former party deputy president – Buganda region, Hon. Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo who was appointed state minister for ICT.
