Government through the ministry of education and sports has been asked to facilitate a smooth, comfortable and careful retirement transition plan for teachers.
This follows a revelation by the education service commission validation report which indicated that close to 5,000 teachers are due to retire in a few years time.
The UPC challenges that retirement of teachers is routine exercise that both the school authorities and the ministry should have been aware of to prepare accordingly.
Sharon Oyat Arach, the party spokesperson said on Wednesday that the education system in Uganda relies on senior teachers and urged government to set up retirement plans that will keep you grounded in the present while always planning for the future.
“Our education system strategically relies heavily on senior teachers to nurture and shape young learners, it demands that the transition has to be carefully planned. Each senior position in school automatically needs a senior teacher to administer,” Arach said
In addition, UPC blamed the denial of Uganda to host international games by FIFA on the poor quality of education
“It is the education system that is responsible for the falling standards, and it is equally the same education system that is to lift Uganda. This calls for early proper planning, goodwill and effective implementation of the plans or policies,” UPC said
In related stories, UPC mourned the death of their senior members, Comrade Kamera Titia Caleb who passed on September 14, at Arua hospital.
According to the family, Kamera will be buried on Saturday 23rd September, 2023 in Terego District, West Nile sub region.
