The government, through the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, is set to introduce legislation aimed at guiding policy and decision-makers in making evidence-based decisions for the country. This initiative was announced by the Minister of State for Finance, Amos Lugoloobi, during the launch of the National Population Data Bank at Hotel Africana in Kampala.Minister Lugoloobi highlighted that access to precise population data will enable better allocation of resources, targeted investments, and the stimulation of economic activities in the regions that need it most. This, he stated, will enhance the ability to create jobs, reduce poverty, and promote sustainable development.
“The National Population Data Bank will store comprehensive data, aiding in more accurate and effective decision-making,” said Lugoloobi. He emphasized the importance of having reliable evidence before making decisions and urged those responsible for handling people’s data to ensure its accuracy.
Samuel Omwa, Managing Director of the National Population Council, also spoke at the event, noting that the National Population Data Bank is set to improve development planning and program effectiveness by making comprehensive and accessible data available to stakeholders.
This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing data-driven governance in Uganda, aiming to foster economic growth and improve the overall well-being of its citizens.
