Ministry of health says is in final processes of digitalizing all medicine delivering systems to stop fake drugs from entering the country.
Almost 80% of the medicine used in Uganda come from outside in countries like China , India among others.
While addressing journalists at media center today, Martha Grace Ajulong the Assistant Commissioner Health Services -Pharmaceutical supply Chain and Logistics at the health disclosed that Ugandans for the long time have been crying of fake medicine on the market which at times cause damages to their health sometimes death but this is going to come to end
“We are developing a technology system dobbed GS I (One) which is going to monitor each and every step of the medicine imported from manufacturing sites until it enters the country because opportunists have been using that chance to smuggle fake medicine”Ajulong said.
She also revealed that government is going allocate land to build on a pharmaceutical industrial park to decrease on the percentage of medicine entering the country.
Ajulong has announced the 3rd edition of Uganda’s largest Pharma, medical and healthcare international Exhibition slated on 22nd-24th February 2024 at UMA shows grounds Lugogo where over 120 countries including India, China ,United Kingdom will participate. The exhibition will focus on manufactures and suppliers of pharmaceuticals,healthcare ,medical , technologies among others.
Among the products on display will include Pharma and API, Medical , Laboratory, Health care, Neutraceutical ,Dental and Orthopedic, Medical Tourism, Herbal and Ayurveda.
“This exhibition is more important because people will get information of new technology used in various countries and be implemented in their respective countries hence improving health quality” Ajulong explained.
She has rallied medical personnel to embrace the exhibition to get new knowledge.
