The police in Kiryandongo are holding in custody a suspect on allegations of stealing government drugs and sell them to private clinics
The suspect is Erick Brown,43, an enrolled nurse at Kiryandongo general hospital on and resident of Bweyale town council, Kibanda North constituency, Kiryandongo district.
He was arrested on Sunday at Diika Trading Centre on allegations of drug theft from one of the health centres in the area.
According to Keuber Simon the Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO) for Kyankende Sub-county, the suspect was arrested following security tip off from concerned citizens who were travelling with Erick.
“He was spotted from Panyadoli Camp area carrying a bag and the colleagues he was traveling with were suspicious of him, tbey alerted the security agencies, which responded on time”, said Keuber
Having noticed that police was hunting him, the Giso said, Erick attempted to flee on his motorbike but was later intercepted and arrested at Diika Trading Centre.
“After noticing that police was following him, the suspect runway on his motorcycle registration number UFE 143Y at around 2:43pm but police managed to arrest him”, said GISO
On arrest, security recovered different drug types which the suspect was carrying in his bag. The drugs were exhibited and suspect detained.
It’s alleged that the suspect has been stealing drugs from the hospital and selling them to private clinics.
He was taken to Diika Police Post and later transferred to Kiryandongo Central Police Station.
