The police in Wakiso last night shot at two suspects attempting to rob residents of Kikaya Bulenga.
According to police, the incident occurred at about 1am today 25th May, 2022 when thugs armed with pangas attacked the home of Ssempijja Bruno, and cut him before stealing his Huawei phone.
Police was called in and when they arrived at the scene, the thugs had moved to the rental houses of a one Gladesi Mugerwa and the rental apartment of Ronald Mutebi, a Journalist with the New Vision.
They were caught red handed in the act of robbing Mugerwa. Police fired bullets to disperse them injuring two of them while the two others escaped from the scene.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesman has identified the injured suspects as Kato Joseph and Kabale Sula, all residents of Kikaya.
He says that the injured were rushed to the hospital for first aid and later are helping police in investigation.
“We managed to shoot and disable two of the thugs who have also provided information about their colleagues that escaped, the hunt to arrest other accomplices is on”, Owoyesigyire said.
He added, “the police recovered stolen items from the two including Phones; 1 HTC white in color, Nokia blue in color, Samsung black in color, Infinix black in color, BLU black in color and Huawei black in color belonging to one of the victims Ssempija Bruno.”
Two new sharp pangas, a torch and a stone that the thugs were using have also been recovered.
On arrest, the suspects confessed to committing other crimes in the area and will according to police be arraigned to court on charges of aggravated robbery as soon as they recover.
Owoyesigyire has appealed to the public to always have contacts of security heads in their areas and police digital platforms to report such cases immediately.
“We would like to urge the general public to always have the numbers of their OC station. These can be found on the UPF Mobi that is on the Google play store. Our officers through the community liaison department have also been told to reach out to members of the public and share these numbers for quick response,” he said
