A human skeleton was on Friday (August 30) found in a swamp in Ndurumo wetland, Kitagata town council, Sheena district, and suspected murder is not ruled out.
The incident was reported by Francis Ntungwa, Chairman of LC1 Katongo 1 Village, Kyeibanga West Parish, who discovered the skeleton and reported to authorities using his mobile phone, at 10:30 am on Friday.
According to the police report, CRB 49/2024, the skeleton is believed to be that of a male adult, but the identity and cause of death are yet to be determined.
The greater Bushenyi region police spokesperson, SSP Martial Tumusiime confirmed this report noting that police is investigating the matter.
“A team of detectives, led by ASP Muhoozi and D/AIP Muhwezi, visited the scene and collected evidence, including shoes and a rough sketch plan,” said SSP Tumusiime. “The skeleton was taken to Kitagata Health Centre for post-mortem examination and DNA analysis.”
Preliminary findings suggest that the body may have been dumped in the swamp and later burned by a bush fire. The police are now working to identify the deceased through DNA analysis and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
“Inquiries are ongoing, and further details will be released as more information becomes available,” police reported.
