Ugandan President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa on Sunday held a closed door meeting with President William Samoei Ruto of Kenya at State House Entebbe.
Inside reports indicate that the discussion between the two heads of states rotated on trade blockade.
“During the brief meeting, President Museveni and his Kenyan counterpart discussed bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest,” read excerpts of a statement by the presidential press unit.
The meeting comes few months after Kenyan government banned the issuance of permits needed by Ugandan processors to import dairy products into Kenya.
Since the blockade, Brookside dairy which operates both in Uganda and Kenya says it had not exported a single litre of milk to Kenya.
“The rising stockpiles of milk have impacted farm-gate prices of milk, which have dropped exponentially,” Brookside Uganda General Manager Benson Mwangi told journalists in Kampala.
The restriction limits the number of export permits for powdered milk from the Uganda.
On the other hand, Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto said that the discussion covered matters of mutual interest especially on trade, security and agriculture.
“Kenya and Uganda have a firm partnership based on decades of East African brotherhood, strong cooperation, and consistent engagement,” he said
