Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) have cautioned the public against dubious individuals running a fake WhatsApp group to advertise admissions and extort from unsuspected applicants in Namutumba district.
Rehema Kantono, the university Public Relations Officer (PRO) says masqueraders are using university emblems to advertise enrollment management for various diploma and certificate programs via a fake WhatsApp group in the name of IUIU Namutumba campus.
“The group mentors mentions the venue as Superkit Institute Kangulumo in Namutumba and lists several telephone numbers as contact points for admissions,” Kantono explained.
Kantono maintained that the university operates only Four campuses that is the main campus in Mbale, Kampala campus in Kibuli, Arua campus and the female campus in Kabojja Wakiso district and a one study centre in Kyotera district. She noted that the university does not have any campus or study centre currently offering study programs in Namutumba and cautioned the public against being defrauded.
“We would like to categorically state that this group and the activities it promoted are in no way affiliated with or endorsed by the Islamic University in Uganda. IUIU has not authorized any admissions or education programs in Namutumba and has no association with the aforementioned institute or the individuals running this group,” PRO Kantono cautioned.
She said the university is working hand in hand with relevant authorities to investigate the matter and have perpetrators apprehended.
“We have taken serious note of this matter and are taking appropriate steps to address it, including liaising with relevant authorities to investigate and take actions against those impersonating IUIU and misleading potential applicants,” said Kantono.
