On Christmas day, Janet Museveni, the minister of education and sports, experienced a peculiar sensation in her throat characterized by a sandy feeling. An initial rapid COVID-19 test yielded a negative result. However, a second sample was taken and sent to Mbarara for a PCR test, which confirmed that she had contracted the virus.
The announcement was made by President Museveni himself on his official social media account. He disclosed that Mrs. Museveni had been feeling weak, occasionally suffering from headaches, and grappling with an irritating throat. Concerned about the situation, the President also decided to undergo a COVID-19 test on the 26th of December. Fortunately, his test results returned negative later that afternoon.
To ensure the safety of everyone involved, Mrs. Museveni took the responsible decision to self-isolate in one of the houses in Rwakitura. Meanwhile, President Museveni carried on with his scheduled programs, only refraining from attending events that his wife was supposed to participate in. Consequently, they unfortunately had to cancel their plans to visit Kyenkwanzi and attend Hon. Kaboyo’s function.
President Museveni expressed his hopes for a speedy recovery for his wife, referring to her as a “first-time warrior” in the battle against COVID-19.
