The National Unity Platform president Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobiwine has revealed that dishonesty and inconsistency have hampered the unity of opposition political parties in Uganda.

In his new year to Ugandans, Kyagulanyi the leading opposition figure, says many times they have had meetings as opposition in Uganda, some actors have placed personal interest ahead of the national interest.

‘’The challenge has always been the dishonesty in some cases and inconsistency in other cases. Some actors have clearly placed personal interest ahead of the national interest. There are many lessons we have learnt in trying to forge this unity, most of which we do not make public, because giving certain details can easily lead to further mistrust and suspicion.’’ Writes Kyagulanyi

The former Kyadondo East Legislator, asserts that some of the actors in the opposition are not interested in coming together as one, but rather tend to derail and delay others not to have a complete agenda.

Citing out over fifty meetings his camp held with other position political party leaders on the notion to front one candidate in the January 2021 general elections, Bobi Wine said some members were spying for the government leaking all their plans to Museveni something that would derail and delay their plans.

“It later became apparent that some of the actors were in fact not interested in our unity at all, but were using those meetings and engagements to derail and delay us,” Bobi Wine said.

He did not disclose all the names but revealed former Forum for Democratic Change- FDC Deputy President for Buganda region, Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo, who was last year appointed state minister for ICT.

“Some of these people were not necessarily working for the regime but felt that if we had a political party, we would take over their space. You can imagine!” he said.

“While we are busy fighting to see the regime down, some actors were very comfortable with their positions within the opposition!” he added.

He said that some of the meetings were held at Ssebugwawo’s home who would later spill all the plans to the enemy.

“In fact, one of the last and most important meetings we had to discuss the question of unity took place at the home of Owek. Joyce Ssebugwaawo, now Museveni’s minister. It was later on that we established that all along she had been in touch with the regime, although she was a Deputy President of a major opposition party.’’

The self-proclaimed ghetto president says, they have had a hard time with some of their colleagues fighting his party National Unity Platform to the extent that some went as far as approaching the Electoral Commission and Court staff to beg that they influence their de-registration of the party.
