Unknown people have set on fire a stationary vehicle at the home of Hon. Frank Byaruhanga, the speaker of Kanungu district.
The incident occured on Friday January 19, at around 2330hrs in Ruyayo village, Kihihi Town Council, Kanungu district while some members of the family were asleep, according to police. A case of suspected arson was reported to Kihihi police station by Ronald Ndyabahaki, 24, a student at YMCA also a son to the speaker.
“While the reporter who is a son to Hon Byaruhanga Frank, the District speaker Kanungu District was in the house sleeping with Mwesigye Anthony, heard a loud bang outside and on checking out, they saw their motor vehicle registration number UAX 023S having been set on fire and two men taking off from the scene,” said Kigezi region police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate.
The family tried to extinguish the fire with water and sand but had already escalated.
Police visited and condoned off the scene, introduced K9 (sniffer dog) but nothing positive was achieved.
No suspects have been apprehended however, Maate said investigation is going on under file reference number CRB 30/2024.
