KIU’s Jonathan Areeba once again proved why he is considered the best mooter in East Africa as he claimed the best Oralist award as well as leading KIU to victory.

For purposes of fairness, teams used codes not University names and each team had the chance to present both sides of the case that is “applicant” and “respondent”

In the preliminary rounds, KIU broke for semis as the first with 79 and still replicated the performance at semis breaking through as number one with 76 points. Makerere came second in all rounds with 72 and 74 respectively.

To be champion, you are always required to beat the best and KIU just did that beating Makerere University at their campus. This will also stand as testimony of what KIU’s poise to becoming the best in the land. It also proved that the explorers are settling for nothing less than conquering the legal throne.

Star man Jonathan Areeba has been abit quiet in 2022 but Friday’s remarkable performance proves he is yet to sleep and only shows how great a mooter KIU has. He always strives for the best and waits to celebrate atlast.

” I feel very happy, it is a dream come true,” Areeba said after being announced champion.

“I have always desired to achieve that award,” he added.

Areeba credited his trainers whom he said played a great role in Friday’s victory.

“I wish to thank my teammate Marion our trainers who have relentlessly trained us that is miss Comfort Ndagire Vanessa and Swalleh Hemed Wengo I know very well that my success is equally theirs,” Areeba acknowledged.

Team KIU that featured Jonathan Areeba and Marion Akankwasa was led by Interim moot Coordinator, Justice Ochieng who looked very happy after the team’s victory.

“I am extremely happy, so happy. First of all I want to thank my team. They have made me proud as well as KIU,” Justice Ochieng remarked.

He attributed the team’s victory to hardwork, persistence, resilience and self belief.

“Surely, we won because we deserved to win. It was through persistence, resilience and hardwork. We had sleepless nights preparing for this,” he disclosed.

KIU is currently ranked the second best University in Uganda and the best private University in the country. Friday’s victory is an addition to series of achievements the University has registered in the legal department in recent memory including having former students graduate with first class in this year’s LDC graduation.
