Police in Alebtong district are holding the local council one chairperson for aiding the mob in murdering of a suspected thief.
Jackson Awany, 49, the LC1 Chairman of Obangageo village Obongoatin parish Amugo sub-county in Alebtong was arrested on Monday morning following the desth of Andrew Anyang, a suspected thief.
It is alleged that on June 4, the case of a missing cow was reported to the chairperson’s office who issued a letter to the owner a one Moses Ogwal to trace the animal. The next day, while at Otuboi market in Kaberamaido, Ogwal discovered the animal that was being sold by Anyang leading to his arrest.
He was brought back to Obangangeo to the office of the area LC1 who locked him inside the house before releasing him to the angry mob instead of handing him over to police
The heavily armed with sticks mob descended on Anyang and beat him to death.
