The Rwenzururu King Omusinga Irema Ngoma, His Royal Majesty Charles Wesley Mumbere has appointed Light FM Kasese Manager, Geoffrey Kanyonyi minister of Information and Kingdom’s spokesperson.

“According to the powers entrusted to me by the constitution of Obusungu Bwa Rwenzururu, In the name of God and on behalf of the Abanya Rwenzururu, I take this honor to appoint you the above mentioned position. Habwa Kayingo N’obusinga Bwethu,” read an appointment letter by Omusinga Mumbere.

In appointment letter, the new minister has been instructed to honor and protect the Kingdom’s constitution, Omusinga and the Royal family as well as cooperating with other kingdom officials.

Kanyonyi replaces former minister Owek. John Thawite who according to sources within the Kingdom heads to retirement.

Members of the Nobles Discussion Group which Geoffrey Kanyonyi was an active member while at a university.

Omusinga also appointed other people in the new cabinet with whom he shall be serving. They are Omulerembera (Prime Minister) Rt. Hon. Joseph Kule Muranga, Attorney General Rt. Hon. Counsel Fred Makasi and Speaker Rt. Hon. Noah Nzaghale among others.

About Kanyonyi

The ambitious and go getter Geoffrey Kanyonyi is a professional journalist and a leader. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication of Kampala International University.

He is a book author of two books, and Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) staunch believer. His first book titled “Create the Tomorrow You Deserve” was written and published while still at a university in 2017 and another one titled “In Me There’s Poverty and Wealth” was published in 2021.

Kanyonyi is also a former Youth Parliamentary Speaker Rwenzori Sub-region 2021, Former President of KIU Mass Communication Association, 2017 and President Rwenzori KIU Students Association 2017.

While at KIU, Kanyonyi together with other 17 Mass Communication students including Noah Omuya, CEO Aica Communication, Leonard Kamugisha Akida, CEO Parrots Media among others under their Nobles Discussion Group established the first ever University Weekly News publication, “The KIU Nobles Weekly Newsletter” which equipped students with news around the campus, latest national and global information.

He is currently serving as AWR-102.9 Light FM Radio in Kasese. He was sworn in as the minister today, Thursday 28th March, 2024 in the afternoon.
