KAMPALA
The Minister for Local Government, Hon. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, has urged local government leaders across the country to support the anti-corruption teams deployed by President Yoweri Museveni to combat graft and improve service delivery.
Speaking during a Ministry of Local Government meeting on the implementation of the President’s anti-corruption directive at Imperial Royale Hotel Kampala, Balaam called on district chairpersons, city and municipal speakers, mayors, district and city service commission chairpersons, chief administrative officers and town clerks to cooperate fully with the Anti-Corruption Unit and ministerial teams during their visits to respective districts.
He said the directive seeks to strengthen accountability, promote transparency and ensure public resources are used for their intended purpose to improve service delivery.
Balaam noted that local governments play a central role in implementing government programmes and should therefore help expose corruption by providing the Anti-Corruption Unit and ministerial teams with the information and cooperation needed to execute their mandate effectively.
The minister also welcomed Vice President Jessica Alupo, who represented President Museveni at the meeting, and encouraged participants to use the engagement to propose practical recommendations aimed at strengthening accountability and improving governance in local governments.
