A report from Uganda Water Project indicates that over 40 percent of Ugandans lack access to safe and clean water which is entirely preventable.
Following the previous concerns and investigations on Ugandan water project, revelations indicate that the some Non governmental organisations dealing in water supply are charging poor Ugandans money for water.
It is alleged that people especially those in Kampala, Wakiso and the greater Luweero are being forced to pay money to NGOs under the guise of maintenance and subscription fee.

Locals who preferred anonymity complained that they get a lot of challenges to access clean water due to extortion from NGOs dealing in water supply in their respective areas. According to the locals, every person in the household pays ugx 12,000 per month which means a household with more than 15 people face alot of problems to get clean water.
They have pointed out district leaders who sign Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with these NGO’s after small tokens and at the end of the day it’s them to suffer.
“The actions differ with the promises they offer at the beginning yet there traces of revenue are hidden since they don’t clearly pay the revenues since they pretend to be saving money for people in disguise of maintenance” they disclosed.
The aggrieved locals have called on the government to intervene in the matter and rescue them from the greedy NGOs.
“We call upon the president to immediately investigate this matter because there is National water and sewage cooperation (NWSC) to offer subsidized water prices,” residents urged.
