A 25-year-old Gerald Okongo has been arrested for the kidnap, aggravated defilement and murder of a one and a half year old female juvenile in Toronto.
Okongo, a resident of Asinga “B” village, Malaba Town Council was arrested on Saturday 1st July, 2023 after a police K9 dog led detectives to the suspect.
According to reports, the victim, Promise Atte was last seen playing with a 2-year-old child on Friday night (June 30) at around midnight, from Mama Musa’s bar, located at Asinga “B” Zone, where her mother, Naziwa Grace, was drinking from.
The following day on 01.07.2023, at around 7:30am, her body was found lying dead in a cassava garden in Amagoro central where she was allegedly defiled, murdered and dumped.
Police was informed and deployed a K9 dog at the scene which led them to the suspect.
“The victim sustained vicious physical injuries across the body and her private parts,” police reported
Police also recovered a pamper with faeces at the scene and was taken as an exhibit.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, the police spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga condemned the horrifying act by Okongo who he said should have been the victim’s protector instead.
“As Police, we strongly condemn the vicious physical and sexual assault of the victim. We are going to ensure our Sexual and Gender Based Violence Department, closely follows the matter, to court up to its logical conclusion.” Enanga condemned
The suspect is currently in police custody at Tororo Central Police Station.
