Police in Masaka are investigating circumstances under which a man drowned in Lake Victoria after reportedly jumping off a boat en route from Kalangala Islands to Lambu landing site.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
According to the boat owner, Peter Matovu, the unidentified passenger boarded from Kalangala but shortly before reaching Lambu landing site, he suddenly told fellow passengers, “Mwelaba Banange” literally meaning “Goodbye my friends, before plunging into the lake. Matovu noted that the victim looked depressed when he boarded the boat.
Masaka Regional Police spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye, confirmed the incident, saying investigations are ongoing to establish the identity of the victim and the motive behind his actions.
