A 39-yr-old man in Jinja City, Jinja district has been sent to remand after he impersonated as an official working from the State House.
On Tuesday, the Jinja magistrate court presided over by Phiona Sheila Angura heard that Herman Nuwagaba, also calling himself Abdul Ssempijja the accused on August 11 visited Jinja Central Police Station and introduced himself before Detective Inspector of Police (D/IP) Bogere Michael as a State House official.
“It is alleged that the accused person went ahead to instruct IP Bogere to submit case file vide CRB 145/2023 of Bugembe Police Station to him and the detective got suspicion of the accused person,” read excerpts of a court document.
The suspicions prompted police to verify the accused’s identity through Deputy Press Secretary to the President Farouk Kirunda only to find out that he (Nuwagaba) has never been an employee of State House.
Further allege that Nuwagaba has been on several occasions masquerading as a Police and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officer, judicial officer, and an official from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (oDPP).
He was remanded until August 21 when he will reappear before the same court.
