CRIME– Ibanda
A 55-year-old man from Ibanda district was on Thursday remanded to Nyabuhikye government prison for two days on one count of attempted murder of his wife.
The suspect is Levinary Kabatungye, a resident of Ryensinga,-Nyarukika, Rukiri subcounty in Ibanda district. He was on Thursday arraigned to Ibanda Grade One magistrate court after he was arrested on Sunday July 23.
The magistrate Esther Murungi, heard that on 19th June, 2023, Kabatungye using a machete attacked and injured his wife Kamakondere on the arm. The victim sustained with deep cuts on her arms and reported the matter to police. This prompted the suspect to run away from the village. He was arrested by police when he returned on Sunday.
The suspect was not allowed to take any plea and was remanded to prison until Sunday when he will return to court to take plea for his charges before trial.
When found guilty, Kabatungye faces life imprisonment as the maximum jail term for the offence.
