A woman in Abim district is retreating wounds after her husband shot her in the eye using a bow and arrow.
The suspect is Patrick Owiny alias Ocaya, 53, a retired soldier and resident of Abim West cell in Abim district. He allegedly shot his wife, Grace Apio, 50 on the right eye following a gambling scuffle with his friend David Ongom.
Preliminary reports revealed that on January 24, 2024, the suspect while at the victims shop developed a misunderstanding with his friend after he won him in a gambling game.
Dissatisfied with the results, the suspect (Owiny) started claiming for his money and the scuffle ensued prompting the intervention of his wife.
“The suspect picked a bow and arrow, so as to shoot at Ongom David, but when his wife tried to stop him,, he diverted the bow and arrow, towards his wife and shot her to the right eye,” police reported.
He further robbed seven (7) million shillings from the wife’s shop and then disappeared to unknown place.
The victim was was rushed to Abim hospital which referred her to Lacor hospital in Abim for further management.
Police spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga confirmed to shooting incident noting that the suspect was still on run and that police has already launched a manhunt against him.
“She is currently out of danger. However, he arrow blinded her right eye, after it penetrated her eye socket and remained embedded there,” Enanga said.
Police attributed the incident to domestic violence which traumatize both the family and communities. They urged all people living under vulnerable violence to always contact Child and Family Protection officers at their nearest police stations for help.
