At least one person has been confirmed dead after fire gutted some business kiosks in Kisenyi zone Kampala.
The fire outbreak started today afternoon at around 2pm in Kakajjo Zone, Kisenyi.
The Police Directorate of Fire Prevention and Rescue Services with the help of the residents responded at the scene and managed to extinguish the fire before it would spread to other parts of Kisenyi.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police has said that one person identified as Godfrey Mukasa, 50 years, died in the fire.
Mukasa, a resident of the same area was found dead during a search in the fire affected area.
It has been established that Mukasa was seated with his friends when the fire started.
Police says that Mukasa’s colleagues ran away, but Mukasa was unable to flee the scene given because he had disabilities.
His body was found later in a burnt building.
Police has conveyed to the city mortuary Mulago for a post mortem.
According to the police fire and rescue team, over 80 stores that deal in in grain, grinding machines, fridges and other fubrications were destroyed by the fire.
The investigative teams have picked samples from the scene to establish the cause of the fire.
Police has since cordoned the scene to prevent theft of property recovered from the structures that gutted fire.
