KAMPALA
The Revolutionary Network (NRN), a pressure group aligned to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), has said that the fight against corruption must spare no one, demanding a relentless crackdown on corruption regardless of status or political connections.
The group says many public officers are using their positions to enrich themselves resulting into gross abuse of office and mismanagement of public funds henceforth affecting service delivery in the country. They challenged the NRM party structures to consider accountable and honesty leaders, especially at a time when parliament is set to elect the speaker and deputy speaker of the 12th parliament.
The group said the fight against corruption must remain central in the party’s leadership choices and governance agenda.
“We take this moment to strongly reaffirm our ideological commitment: the fight against corruption within public institutions must be total, fearless and continuous. It must not spare anyone based on rank, political convenience, or internal protection networks,” the youth urged.
NRN argued that integrity, discipline and service record should guide leadership selection within the ruling party, especially at a time when public concern over corruption and abuse of office remains high.
Meanwhile, the group has reiterated its support for the direction reportedly communicated by the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, regarding the endorsement of the NRM flag bearer for Speaker of Parliament.p
On Friday morning, CDF Muhoozi posted on his official X, formerly Twitter account endorsing Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth for the position of the speaker.
The statement comes amid heightened political tensions within the NRM ahead of the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 12th Parliament. The party is reportedly divided on which candidate to back for speaker between incumbent Anita Among and Nobert Mao, while MPs aligned to Muhoozi’s PLU are backing Oboth Oboth meanwhile, the NRM CEC has yet to officially announce their endorsement.
But, NRN says they will support for candidates aligned with what it described as a firm anti-corruption position, but called on party structures and public officials to move beyond rhetoric and implement practical accountability measures across government institutions.
“We therefore challenge all NRM leadership structures to match words with action,” the group stated, warning against what it termed as internal protection networks that shield corrupt individuals from scrutiny.
