The directorate of traffic and road safety at Uganda Police has reported that they have arrested 21,615 traffic offenders across the country since the month of December begun.
“So far a total number of 21,615 traffic offenders have been arrested and issued with EPS tickets on various traffic offences at various checkpoints in the whole country from December 1 to December 19, 2021,” read excerpts of a report.
The revelation has been made by the directorate’s spokesperson, ASP Faridah Nampiima, during a joint press conference at police Headquarters in Naguru Kampala on Monday.
She said that among the offences committed include speeding 682, reckless driving 3,528, DMCs 3,365, not wearing seat belts 1,180, invalid driving licences 1,481, third party insurance 2,207, among others.
Police has warned road users to be extra careful on roads in the forthcoming Christmas festive that is comprised of frequent movements of people and goods, thus increasing traffic volume on the road likely to cause any possible eventualities.
The directorate has further retaliated the 10 points measures to curb indiscipline on the road during the Christmas season.
