Uganda police force has come out to give clarions on the healthy status of embattled Mityana Municipality legislator MP Francis Zaake who was arrested on allegations of distributing food to his constituents contrary to the presidential directives on corona virus.
Twiine Masio Charles, the PRO police Criminal Investigations Department [CID] confirmed that Mp Zaake is hospitalized and receiving treatments.
“Hon Francis Zaake is undergoing treatments at Iran – Uganda hospital Naguru and he is very conscious and in stable conditions,” Twiine confirmed.
The clarification follow public demand on the whereabouts of the legislator after his arrest at his home in Mityana.
Mp Zaake was arrested on Sunday April 19th by security operatives for allegedly distributing food to his constituents without the consent of the district COVID-19 task force and without considering the precautionary measures on the virus.
He was later arrested and charged with Negligent act likely to spread infection of disease contrary to Section 117 of the Penal Code Act. Police opened up a file of his case under registration number CRB268/2020.
According to Twiine, the suspect through his lawyers complained of ill health and asked for examination before being produced to court. He said the Uganda Police Medical team carried out examinations in the presence of the suspect’s lawyers, personal doctors and wife.
He further narrated that his doctors, wife and lawyers agreed on having a special examination thus finding their way to Naguru based Iran- Uganda hospital where Zaake is currently being admittrd.
President Museveni while giving a national address on the Corona virus updates in March ordered police to arrest opportunist politicians who distribute food to people in what he called “seeking cheap popularity.” He instead advised anybody who would want to give relief to the vulnerable persons affected by the corona virus measures to channel their donations to the National Response Fund Task Force who would then systematically distribute food to the people.
A big number of politicians and individuals from the public including People Power Movement, corporate companies have since then given out their contributions.
