MTN Uganda has recognized Kate Kiiza, Executive Director at dfcu Bank, for her outstanding efforts in advocating for women’s empowerment and economic inclusion.

During a visit to dfcu Bank, MTN Uganda’s Business Segment Manager, Justina Icabala, praised Kiiza as a remarkable and influential leader whose work has created opportunities for the advancement of women-related causes across the country.

dfcu Bank’s Commitment to Women’s Empowerment
dfcu Bank has been at the forefront of championing women’s economic participation through tailored financial solutions, mentorship programs, and strategic partnerships.

The bank’s flagship Women in Business (WiB) program provides female entrepreneurs with access to affordable credit, business advisory services, and financial literacy training to help them scale their enterprises. Recently, the bank was one of the financial institutions selected to implement the GROW Project, a nationwide imitative meant to accelerate th growth and skills of female businessowners.

Speaking on the recognition, Kiiza expressed gratitude to the MTN team for the recognition and emphasized dfcu Bank’s appreciation of their partnership.

She reiterated the bank’s commitment to continued collaboration, highlighting that empowering women is both a lived and core value of dfcu which boasts of a female staff employment of more than 50%.

Impact of the MTN-dfcu Partnership

dfcu Bank’s collaboration with MTN Uganda on the Advancing Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) initiative has yielded remarkable results. Within just one year, women-owned supplier contracts with MTN Uganda have grown from 3% to 14%, with contracts worth over UGX 20 billion awarded to female-led businesses. This initiative has helped women entrepreneurs access new markets, increased their business capacity, and built sustainable enterprises.

Building on this success, dfcu Bank and MTN Uganda are exploring further collaborations to enhance financial inclusion, mentorship, and digital transformation for women in business.

As part of its long-term vision, dfcu Bank remains committed to empowering women through access to finance, training, and business networking opportunities. By continuing to invest in women’s economic empowerment, the bank reinforces its role as a key driver of sustainable development and financial inclusion in Uganda.
