The President of the Republic of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Musveni has nullified his earlier orders that all Government announcements should be through Uganda Broadcasting Cooperation and Vision Group platforms.
The President said this yesterday during a state engagement with media owners under their umbrella The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) at State House Entebbe.
“In 1965, I began fighting sectarianism and politics of identity, basing on three objectives, prosperity for Africa, strategic security and brotherhood” Museveni said
During the meeting, the Minister of Information Chris Baryomunsi told the president that private broadcasters are failing to pay staff salaries and taxes due to this order.
Museveni directed the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanjja Musafiri to halt a letter that directed government activities to be done through UBC until the two parties come to an agreement next week.
“The directive was not intended to harm the private sector but help privatise UBC” Museveni added
The meeting that was attended by different media owners among others Kin Karisa, NAB chairman, Don Wanyama of New Vision, Andrew Mwenda of the Independent Magazine, Sarah Kagingo of Soft power News to mention but a few.
