President Museveni has offered 5 million shillings financial support to the affected families in the Kigogwa fuel tanker inferno.
On Tuesday (October 22), a fuel tanker overturned and exploded in Kigogwa town council, and claimed 15 lives.
As part of the government’s ongoing effort to offer aid and comfort to those affected by the disaster, President Museveni extended his condolences and offered Shs5 million financial assistance to each family which lost their loved one in the incident. Also, families with members who are hospitalized in hospitals have been given Shs1 million each to facilitate them in footing hospital bills.
This was revealed by the State Minister for ICT, Geoffrey Baluku Kabyanga during an urgent press briefing to deliver an official government communication on fuel tanker explosion at Uganda Media Centre on Wednesday evening.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango says death toll in Kigoogwa explosion has increased to 15, including 11 people who died on the spot and 4 who died in the hospital. He said the number is likely to soar up because some of the casualties are still in critical conditions.
Earlier this day, opposition UPC called for thorough investigation into the explosion and compensation to families which lost lives and property in the inferno.
“Let the government and all stake holders get involved as quickly as possible to handle the after effects of black Tuesday which include enhanced treatment for those who got injured due to fire burns and decent burials for our departed ones, as well as compensation or financial assistance,” said Sharon Oyat Arach, UPC spokesperson.
