President has promoted Brig Gen. Richard Otto to the rank of Major General, updf ported.
This has been disclosed by the defense deputy spokesperson Col. DEO Akiiki in a statement released on Wednesday June 28.
“The CDF is pleased to announce the promotion of Brig Gen, RICHARD OTTO to the rank of Maj General by the president of the Republic of Uganda and Commander in Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces,” read a statement in parts.
Otto was recently appointed the Chairperson of the South Sudan supervisory mechanism which monitors the implementation of peace process in S Sudan on behalf of Uganda.
Uganda is the guarantor of the peace agreement under IGAD with other guarantors like of Sudan and S.Sudan.
In 2019, Otto was appointed updf contingent in Somalia and AMISOM sector 1 commander until 2020. He had previously served as the commander of the Updf third division in Moroto, a position he was appointed to in 2017.
He also served as the Updf contingent in Central Africa Republic under the African Union Regional Task Force (AU-RTF) which was among others mandated to counter fight Joseph Kony’s the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels in Central African Republic.
