KOLOLO
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was sworn in for his seventh consecutive elective term at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, extending his rule to four decades.
The inauguration ceremony, attended by dignitaries and supporters, saw the President escorted by his daughter Natasha Karugire. Notably absent was First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni, whose health has been the subject of public concern.
During prayers at the ceremony, Rt. Rev. Assoc. Prof. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa, Bishop of Ankole Diocese, reassured the nation: “We thank you God for the health and recovery of the First Lady, Mama Janet Kataha Museveni…”
Reports indicate that the First Lady collapsed at State House last month, was rushed to Mbuya Specialized Military Hospital, and later flown to Germany for further treatment.
The swearing-in was presided over by Chief Justice Flavian Zeija, who administered the oath of office at 11:50 a.m., followed by the oath of allegiance. The President was then handed the instruments of power, marking the official start of his new term.
Museveni’s continued leadership cements his position as one of Africa’s longest-serving heads of state, with his tenure now spanning 40 years.
