DAR ES SALAAM
Beginning February 1, 2025, Tanzanians will start using new banknotes in denominations of 10,000, 5,000, 2,000, and 1,000 shillings, the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has announced.
According to the Bank, these notes, featuring updated signatures of top government officials, Finance Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba and Bank of Tanzania Governor Emanuel Tutuba, will maintain the same design as the current series.
This was disclosed by Governor Tutuba during the unveiling ceremony held in Dar es Salaam earlier this week, when he handed over the first batch of the newly printed notes to Dr. Mwigulu, in accordance with national financial regulations.
“I’m pleased to inform you that the printing of the new banknotes based on the 2010 series has been completed. We have already communicated this to the public through the government gazette,” said Governor Tutuba.
Finance Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba praised President Samia Suluhu Hassan for approving the process and commended the Central Bank for ensuring a smooth and professional printing of the new banknotes.
The Bank of Tanzania confirmed that the new notes will coexist with the current series, which feature the signatures of former leaders, including Vice President Dr. Philip Mpango. Officials emphasized that there will be no changes to the notes’ security features, colors, or design.
Tanzanians are urged to familiarize themselves with the updated signatures, which signify the latest developments in the country’s financial administration.
