Angry voters in Bukimbiri county in Kisoro on Thursday attacked the Gatete Parish Priest Fr. Emmanuel Safari and shattered his car wind shield glass.
Fr. Emmanuel alleges that while moving in his vehicle heading to Birara Hiika in Bukimbiri County, Kisoro district, he was being trailed by two people on a motorcycle accusing him of supporting Asgario Turyagyenda, an independent candidate in the Bukumbiri by election instead of the NRM candidate.
The duo purportedly supporters of the ruling National Resistance Movement- NRM then descended on to the priest’s vehicle, Toyota Harrier registration number UBJ 266G and broken its wind glass.
“This is the notorious father who supports Asgario Turyagyenda instead of his the NRM candidate”, said the angry NRM sup Porters as the priest explained.
According to the priest, few minutes after hearing those words, he and other two occupants in his car heard a loud blast behind his car, only to realize that his back windshield had been damaged.
He says the two occupants in his vehicle recognized one of the people on the motorcycle as a Parish Chief in the area identified as Sunday Steven.
He has since filed a complaint at Kisoro central Police station.
“I immediately drove my car to the Police and reported the case. I do not understand why they would do this to my car and these accusations about me supporting Asgario are unfounded”, Fr. Emmanuel said
Kisoro Police declined to comment on the matter, saying investigations were still on-going.
Yesterday, Bukimbiri county went to polls and according to the released results by the Kisoro district returning officer, Daniel Nayebare; he declared NRM’s Eddie Kwizera the winner after he garnered 12,214 votes against Turyagyenda’s 10105 votes. Other candidates, Edward Mutabazi obtained 308 votes while FDC’s James Owebeyi became last with only 280 votes.
