One of the old days head prefect of Makobore High school in Rukungiri district in 1970’s John Mugisha Muhwezi Nyindombi has expressed concern for the old boys, stakeholders and bishop and Christians of North Kigezi diocese to combine efforts and refurbish the school to gain its early days glory.
Muhwezi’s expression sparked off discussions as different people, especially old boys and concerned citizens continue to talk about the current status of Makobore high school especially on social media though some of the discussions show that it’s not only Makobole high school but a number of schools including Kinyasano Girl’s school and Muntuyera Highschool -Kitunga in Ntungamo district.
According to some of the Ob’s and OG’s they blame the downfall of the schools on poor management and corruption by the school management committees and board of governors.

Muhwezi has asked the current Bishop of North Kigezi diocese, the Rt Rev Onesmus Asiimwe to collaborate with the old boys and other stakeholders to uplift and refurbish the school. He says Makobore high school has taught a number of people well placed, in higher government offices therefore they will collaborate with him to uplift and restore the glory of their school.
Muhwezi suggests that every person should exhibit total commitment towards finding appropriate solutions to the problems that have made the image of this memorable school dwindle. He also says that there should be continuous mobilisation especially from old boys, the school foundation body which is North Kigezi Diocese and school committees who should come on board and combine efforts to rekindle their school and create a sustainable future for Makobore High School.
The North Kigezi Bishop, Rt Rev Onesmus Asiimwe says that he already promised to work tooth and nail to refurbish the status of Makobore high school in his speech during his enthronement as the 6th bishop of North Kigezi diocese.
He called upon all old boys, well wishers who love education, government leaders to cooperate and see how best they can refurbish the school.
Makobore high school a boy’s single school ‘A’ Level and ‘O’ Level sections opened its gates far back in 1965 at Kinyasano hill in Western division in Rukungiri municipality under North Kigezi Diocese as a foundation body.
Makobole high school is not only struggling academically but also in a range of other disciplines like enrollment, structures, sports.
