Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, National Coordinator of the NRM’s Office of the National Chairman (ONC), has distanced herself from allegations of corruption in the Iranian scholarship program. Namyalo denied any involvement in the alleged scholarship scam and called for a police investigation to hold accountable any staff found guilty.
The Iranian Ahlul-Bayt International University scholarships were negotiated by ONC and Kyambogo University, aimed to nurture and groom citizens who would contribute to Uganda’s development. However, a group of affected students wrote to President Museveni accusing Namyalo of failing to provide financial packages to support their studies in Iran.
Namyalo dismissed the allegations as political sabotage, stating that she is a victim of targeted politics.
“I know some people who were chased out of this office are playing politics to be brought back here, but I’m a well-off lady and farmer who cannot be bribed,” she said. ” I want the police to investigate and find the truth. I can’t be responsible for other people’s actions.”
Namyalo also announced the start of disbursement of poverty-fighting equipment to people in Wakiso District, launching on June 27, 2024, in Entebbe Muslim playground.
This comes as five NRM MPs face corruption-related charges before the Anti-Corruption Court.
