As Uganda prepares for the second annual Sustainable Development Goals conference, The office of the Prime minister in partnership with the NGO forum, SDG secretariat and the United Nations-Uganda have today launched the Regional SDG Festival at Mbarara City Hall
The western region festival will be held from 15th – 18th May 2023 in Mbarara City.
While launching the festival at Mbarara City Council hall, Racheal Damba Senior Programme Associate at Uganda National NGO Forum told journalists that this will include a number of activities like Caravan, tree planting, cleaning Mbarara city among others.
Onesmus Kansiime from the office of the Prime Minister revealed that so far Uganda has attained 50% of the SDG goals that were set in 2015. He said they optimistic that by 2030, Uganda will have achieved the remaining 50%.
Onesmus said they chose to start from Mbarara because it is one of the districts that have greatly contributed towards the achievement of the 17 SDG goals.
Onesmus applauded the Mbarara city leadership for the good work they are doing towards improving the welfare of the people.
He appealed to the public to turn up in big numbers and participate in the festival and learn how they can exercise their rights.
The Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs) or Global Goals are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”. The SDGs were set up in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly (UN-GA) and are intended to be achieved by the year 2030.
These goals include; No poverty,Zero hunger, Good health and well being, Education, Gender Equality, Clean water and sanitation, Affordable and clean energy, Decent work place and economic growth, Industry, innovation and infrastructure, Reduced inequalities, Sustainable cities and communities, Responsible consumption and production, Climate action, Life below water,Life on land, Peace , justice and strong institutions and Partnership for the goals.
