The Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) has issued stern warnings to schools and the general public against people impersonating UNEB staff and members of the UNEB Examination Security Committee (ESC) to extort from unsuspected schools promising to release their withheld exams.
In the recently released three series of the 2023 national exams namely PLE, UCE and UACE, the board withheld results of some schools on allegations of examination malpractice. However, the board reported that they have received first hand information about individuals who are asking for money from schools to have their results released.
Dan Odongo, the UNEB Executive Director said in a statement on Friday that cases of withheld results are heard on merit of the affected schools and candidates, warning school heads against falling prey to such people who he described as conmen.
“Schools should therefore, not be hoodwinked into paying money to anyone under the pretext that such a payment will cause the release of their results. Such people are conmen and should be reported to police,” he said.
The reports follow cases in which some schools whose results were withheld over alleged involvement in examination malpractice have issued fake results to candidates purportedly given to them by individuals calling themselves UNEB staff.
