Opposition politicians and some political parties in Uganda have eulogized the death of Emeritus Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Mbarara, Rt. Hon. Paul Kamuza Bakyenga.
Bakyenga passed on Tuesday morning at St. Francis Nsambya hospital.
The Democratic Party (DP) secretary-general, Gerald Blacks Siranda, eulogised the late as a bold priest who defended human rights during his leadership.
Politically, the EALA legislator said Bakyenga will be remembered for his greater contributions towards pushing for the revival of multi-party politics in Uganda. He urged church leaders and believers to emulate the late by following his words of wisdom.
Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) said the former Archbishop’s spiritual legacy will live on forever in the country’s Economic forums.
“With heavy hearts, we join the Catholic Church and the world to mourn the demise of the Archbishop Emeritus of Mbarara Archdiocese, His Grace Paul Bakyenga. Our hearts are going out to you during this soul-crushing time” read the condolence message.
On the other hand, the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) by president Gen. Mugisha Muntu comminserate with the elites.

“We have with great Sorrow learnt of the passing on of Archbishop Emeritus of Mbarara Archdiocese, His Grace Paul Bakyenga. We commiserate with the Family, the Uganda Episcopal Conference, the Catholic Church & the People of Mbarara Archdiocese. May his soul rest in eternal peace!” Generdl Muntu said
NUP party principal, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine said the fallen Bishop touched many during his time as a Bishop.
“In the 21 years he spent as Archbishop, he touched the lives of countless believers with his wisdom, compassion and spiritual guidance…”
