Police have arrested 34 suspects for allegedly engaging in criminal activities at Namugongo.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson says that the the suspects were arrested in an operation to safeguard pilgrims at Namugongo for June 3rd Martyrs Day celebrations.
“We have so far registered four cases of theft of phones, one of stealing from a motor vehicle and one of indecent assault at Anglican Shrine.” Says Owoyesigyire
He adds that more than 36 cases were registered at the Catholic shrine 35 of which were theft cases and one of issuing counterfeit currency.
Owoyesigyire thanked the pilgrims for following the security guidelines and being peaceful.
Police assured members of the public that they will continue to safeguard them as they celebrate Martyrs Day.
The suspects are currently detained at Kira Division Police Station pending court.
