At least 44 suspects have been arrested and detained for attending illegal gay wedding in Ochieng Ward Zone, Nansana after complaints from locals.
The Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire told Parrots UG that police on Monday evening led all 44 suspects to Nansana police station and statements from them have been recorded.
Owoyesigyire explained that 38 of the suspects were men dressed as women, with hair wigs and makeup.
Uganda for a second time within seven years last month criminalised gay sex and imposed a 10-year jail term for convicts.
According to the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) spokesperson, Charles Twiine, police have preferred charges of doing a negligent act that may cause spread of a disease which is Covid-19 against them because they didn’t follow SOPs.
