IGANGA
Police in Iganga have arrested a parish chief over allegations of fraud involving Parish Development Model (PDM) funds.
The suspect has been identified as Wabwire Moses, who was working as a parish chief in Lulya Rulume Parish, Buvuma District. He is reportedly a resident of Iganga District.
Wabwire’s arrest followed a complaint lodged by Fauza, a resident of Nabidongha B, Central Division in Iganga Municipality.
According to the complaint, Wabwire approached Fauza and allegedly misled her into believing that he would help her access PDM funds.
He reportedly collected her national identity card and took her to Buvuma District, where she was registered to benefit from the programme.
After Fauza received Shs1 million in PDM funds, Wabwire allegedly gave her only Shs100,000, prompting her to seek help.
The aggrieved woman reportedly went to the office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) in Iganga and lodged a complaint against the parish chief.
Wabwire was subsequently arrested and taken to Iganga Central Police Station, where he reportedly admitted the allegations.
Police said the suspect was later taken to the Iganga Chief Magistrates Court to face charges.
The case is part of growing concerns over the misuse and diversion of funds intended to support beneficiaries under the Government’s PDM programme.
