The minister of Gender Labour and Social Development, Hon. Betty Amongi has appointed Patrick M Ayota as the new Managing Director of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
According to a statement issued by Dr Peter Kimbowa, the fund’s board chair, Ayota has been appointed for a period five years and effective August 18.
Dr. Kimbowa said in a statement that the appointment follows the recommendations by NSSF Board of Directors to the minister in accordance with section 39 and 40 of the NSSF Act, as amended.
Ayota has been the the acting MD of NSSF for the last 8 months since the former MD Richard Byarugaba was interdicted from office over alleged mismanagement of the fund’s money.
During his period as acting MD, Ayota reportedly ensured stability of the find amidst challenges. He has also served as the Deputy Managing Director since December 2017 and Chief Financial Officer since July, 2011.
“The board is confident that he is the right person to steer the fund forward at such a critical time following changes in legislation that oblige the fund to play a leading role in expanding social security coverage of all Ugandans,” Kimbowa said
He assured members of the fund, the public and other stakeholders that NSSF is stable and on course to surpass the 2015-2025 strategic objective.
