Kihihi police have arrested three suspects for allegedly possessing government drugs illegally. The suspects, identified as Musinguzi Alex (51), Mwesigwa Milton alias Emmanuel (30) and Kabyesiza Esau (28) are currently in custody at Kihihi Police Station.
Musinguzi Alex, an askari attached to Kambuga Hospital in Kanungu District, was arrested after a boda boda rider abandoned his motorcycle upon seeing a patrol team near River Ishasha. The motorcycle was taken to the Ishasha UPDF barracks for inspection which was found carrying government drugs wrapped in a polythene paper. The drugs included five tins of Panadol, one tin of chloramphenicol, and two boxes of Cortem Lumartem.
During the investigation, the motorcycle owner, Kyokwijuka George, identified Musinguzi Alex as the person who had hired his motorcycle. This led to Musinguzi’s arrest and the handover of the exhibits to Kihihi Police Station.
Further investigation resulted in the arrest of Mwesigwa Milton, a businessman from Ntungamo district, who was found in possession of 81 syringes, and Kabyesiza Esau, a hub rider and laboratory technician at Kanungu HUB, who was found with non-government gloves.
ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi region police spokesman confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody pending court proceedings as the case file is retrieved from the Resident State Attoney’s office.
