Democratic Party has challenged the Uganda Police and the military on failing to gather security intelligence on criminals terrorizing the country with handmade bomb explosives.

Ismail Kiirya, the UYD President a DP youth wing critics that the police has on several occasions foiled plans by opposition political parties blocking them from holding peaceful demonstrations and other political parties but failed to carry out preventive arrests to individuals criminalizing the country.

On Sunday Police foiled a bomb attack on Pr. Robert Kayanja Miracle Centre Cathedral in Ndeeba Kampala and arrested an alleged suicide bomber, Ibrahim Kintu.

One of the six suspects arrested with explosive hand made bombs in Nabweru Nansana municipality in May 2023

Yesterday, another bomb was found in a lodge and also detonated. Addressing journalists at police headquarters Naguru, the police spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga revealed that the police bomb squad had recovered six IED Led bomb explosives in a course of one week.

But, Democratic party queries the abilities of police on gathering intelligence information and understanding plans of these terrorists before even assembling the bombs.

“The reason why security is given classified Budget is to invest in all kinds of security apparatuses which can detect a person who has plans to do such kinds of crimes,” said Kiirya

He added, “It is unfortunate that our security understand to foil plans of opposition leaders than terrorists, should we say they slept on job because if that bomb blasted at the seen how many people would have died?”

Kiirya opines that security should identify terrorists at their initial stage same way they foil in to opposition plans.

He asked the public to observe personal vigilance because the police is unfit to protect them.

“…leave the issue to police because their capacity is to know when the bomb has been assembled and being taken to the seen “
