Police officer in Budaka district has been killed by an angry mob after he reportedly attempted to break into a store of one of the residents.
The deceased is PC Wakulu Sedulaki, a cop attached to Naguru police station in Kampala.
It is alleged that on the wee hours of Easter Sunday morning the deceased was spotted at the front door of the store of a one Ivan Okoboi at Nampagala village.
He was pursued, arrested and beaten to pulp when he attempted to take on heels after seeing the store owner. The mob accused Wakulu of attempting to break a store.
The Bukedi North regional police spokesperson Immaculate Alaso further identified the cop as a resident of the area in Lyama Village, Lyama Sub County in Budaka district.
“It is reported that the deceased attempted to run away when he saw Okoboi. However, an alarm attracted neighbors to pursue him. He was caught and beaten up by the mob on allegation of being a thief,” ASP Alaso said.
Preliminary reports established that while he was being assaulted, the victim identified himself as a police officer but the pleas fell in the deaf ears of the angry mob.
Budaka CPS was informed and rushed the victim to Budaka health centre IV for treatment.
“Unfortunately, he passed on shortly. We continue to investigate every lead that we receive, as we work to secure justice for the victim and his immediate family,” She said.
Alaso said police have intensified community policing initiatives in the community to purposely sensitize the public about the dangers of taking the law in their hands.
