Uganda Police Force has dismissed with immediate effect their own driver after he was found transporting bags of charcoal in a police truck.
The suspect is CPL Walukayo Jude, attached to Elgon region in Mbale and a police driver.
He was arrested on July 3 while transporting 80 bags of charcoal along the Nakapiripirit-Moroto highway, in a police lorry truck under reg.no. UP 9639.
The police spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga on Tuesday (July 11) told reports that the driver was immediately charged with scandalous behaviour and dismissed from the Force.
Enanga added that Walukayo was charged to court with three other charcoal dealers Okiror Isaiah, Mugabi Peter and Mubogi David Luke, for the illegal possession and dealing in forestry products.
President Museveni recently banned the burning and illegal selling of charcoal in the Karamoja region.
Police says they are working restlessly to enforce this executive directive from the President.
Walukaya and his three accomplices were remanded to Namalu prison.
