Police in Rukungiri have launched a manhunt of three suspects including a former primary school teacher for allegedly killing his own mother over family wealth.
The suspect is Kibariroha James, 62, a retired Primary School teacher resident of Rwentaka village Kisiizi Parish, Nyarushanje, Subcounty, Rubabo County, Rukungiri district.
He allegedly together with two accomplices (identity not known) attacked and killed his mother a one Federesi Karabaye, 80, resident of the same village on Friday 2nd June at around 8pm.
SP Musa Tibakirana the Rukungiri District Police commander told Parrots UG that Kibariroha has been for many times threatening to harm his mother after she refused to make alterations in the will allegedly left behind by his late father who passed on 7 years ago and transfer family wealth into his names.
“The suspect on several occasions tried to force his mother to change the will which she refused to do which prompted him to start threatening her”,Tibakirana explained.
According to the deceased daughter only identified as Aasumpta, the deceased before she was killed made an alarm which attracted the neighbours. Unfortunately, by the time they reached, the suspects had severely cut her on the head killing her on the spot.
Police from Rukungiri led by the District CID visited and documented the scene of the crime. The body of the deceased was conveyed to Rwakabengo HCIII for a postmortem.
A case file RUK CRB 471/22 has been opened at Rukungiri Central Police station and a manhunt for the suspects is ongoing.
