Police and other security agencies in the Greater Bushenyi Region have announced heightened security measures ahead of Eid al-Adha celebrations, pledging to ensure the safety of Muslim communities as they gather for prayers on Friday.
SP Apollo Tayebwa, the Regional Police Spokesperson said all security arrangements have been finalized, with deployments across prayer grounds and other public gathering spaces to prevent any potential security threats.
“We are already done with our plans and we are going to secure all Muslim communities within the region to ensure that people are safe and secure as they take their Eid al-Adha prayers,” SP Tayebwa told Parrots Media.

The police, however, appealed to the public, particularly the Muslim faithful to be alert and report any suspicious activity in their prayer grounds and communities.
“We also appeal to the general public, especially the Muslim communities who are going to be taking their prayers, that you also use your eyes to observe objects and persons. If you become suspicious of any object or person as a security threat, please alert the nearest police officer or any security personnel so that we come in and manage.”
The warning comes in the wake of a recent terror incident in Munyonyo, which left two people including a suspected suicide bomber and a Boda Boda rider dead, prompting renewed calls for public vigilance.
“You cannot take anybody for granted,” SP Tayebwa added, stressing that threats of terrorism remain real. “Please report to us any suspicious situations. We are going to do our best as police, as we have always kept you safe and secure.”
Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most important events on the Islamic calendar, marked by congregational prayers, feasting, and acts of charity. The celebrations attract large gatherings across mosques and open grounds in urban and rural communities alike.
Security teams reiterated that all forces are fully on alert, working in coordination to ensure a peaceful holiday across the Greater Bushenyi Region and the country at large.
“I take this special moment to congratulate and wish a blessed Eid al-Adha to our dear Muslim community in the region and outside the region,” SP Tayebwa said.
He expressed hope that the holy season would continue to foster strong cooperation between the police and the public.
“May Allah in this season continue to strengthen Police – Public Partnership in keeping our region and our country Uganda safe and secure,” he added.
